Bersted parish agrees tax cut

A cut in council tax has been agreed by Bersted parish councillors.

Members agreed at their December meeting to reduce the amount they collect from residents next year by 6.45 per cent compared to the current amount.

The reduction will see owners of band D properties in the area pay 31.11 each in the coming year.

This will provide the parish council with a council tax collection of 90,386.

The chairman of the council's finance and general purposes committee Cllr Brian Green said the reduction reflected the end of the council's costly fight against the site six housing plans.

Last year saw the council spend 98,545. 'I said I wanted to see that down by about 10 per cent,' explained Cllr Green. 'It did drop about two per cent for this year. If you take that in combination with next year's figure, the precept is down about 8.25 per cent on 2006/07.

'When you take inflation into account, you have a reduction of about 10 per cent.'
