Bersted wants say in creation of jobs

A SAY in the creation of thousands of jobs in Bersted has been demanded by parish councillors.

They agreed on Tuesday to press for two places among the decision-makers of Enterprise@BognorRegis.

This will be put in a letter to the chief executives of Arun and West Sussex councils.

The scheme intends to enable 7,000 jobs to be provided on the former Lec airfield and sites around the A29 and Rowan Way.

It is a joint venture between Arun District Council, agencies such as Coast2Capital and private enterprise.

Bersted Parish Council clerk Fiona Dobbs said: “Bersted has 86 per cent of the proposed employment for the Arun District Council.

“It’s important we have some representation on the enterprise zone. If the voice of Bersted is not heard, then the money may go elsewhere and none of the problems that are inherent to Bersted will be considered.”

Vice-chairman Cllr Simon McDougall said: “Bersted should certainly get a fair share of the income.”
