Bexhill air cadets are flying high

Bexhill 2262 Sqn Office Commanding Pilot Officer Peter Cornfield says the ATC is the largest operator of the Duke of Edinburgh Award and the ultimate challenge for young people. “There are plenty of opportunities for cadets to get in the air,” he said. “Air Experience Flights could even see you take to the skies in a Grob Tutor light aircraft.”

PO Cornfield says Bexhill’s 2262 Sqd recently commemorated the Battle of Britain with a parade at Beachy Head memorial honouring those who fought to save Great Britain from German bombing raids. “The day was foggy, bitterly cold and blowing a gale but the Cadets stood firm and held their places to honour the dead even though berets and caps were being blown off left right and centre!”

A camping visit to Wales gave two cadets of 2262 Squadron heads up into archery, navigating, rock climbing, swimming, stream walking and many more activities to challenge the young cadets.

The following weekend, cadets continued their rifle training and shooting skills and PO Cornfield says marksmanship goes a long way back in the history of Air Cadets. “Think you can concentrate on distant targets and fire with consistent accuracy?
