Bexhill Care Centre was told to improve by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) after inspections on December 17 and 21, found failings in every category. But the nursing home on Barnhorn Road was given the lowest possible rating, ‘inadequate’, after a follow-up inspection on February 5, in a report published on Monday, May 23.

People were supported to make choices about the support and care they received and staff were kind and respectful,” the report said.

“However, there were not enough staff with the appropriate experience and skills to meet people’s individual needs. This meant that people were not being helped by staff who knew how to assist them to move safely or protect them from harm.”

Care plans were limited, no systems were in place to monitor support, there was no registered manager since September and the CQC found legal breaches.

The independent care home has accommodation for up to 41 people with nursing and personal care needs, but there were 16 people living at there at the time of the inspection.
