The Care Quality Commission (CQC) said Frinton House, in Buckhurst Road, Bexhill, said the service was not safe and not well-led, giving the lowest rating for both categories.

The report, published this week, said: “People were not always protected from the risk of harm. Medicine procedures were not safe in relation to medicines needed on an as required basis for one person.

“Although individual risks assessments were carried out, when changes occurred to people’s needs they were not always updated to ensure people were safe and had all the equipment they needed to maintain their safety.”

Inspectors added Frinton House’s systems for monitoring and improving its service had ‘not always been effective’.

The report added: “There were mixed views about the management of the home. Some staff felt that they were not listened to while others told us the manager was supportive and approachable.”

The inspection took place on January 28 and February 2 this year.

A spokesman for Consensus Support Services Ltd, which runs Frinton House, said: “The health and wellbeing of the individuals we support is our absolute priority and we take feedback from the CQC extremely seriously. The report relates to an inspection that took place at the beginning of the year and, since then, we have put in place a robust and comprehensive action plan to address the areas raised.

“Significant work has been completed in the interim, and we are confident the report is not a fair or accurate reflection of the care and support now being provided at the service.

“We look forward to welcoming the CQC back to the service soon, so they can see the significant improvements that have been made.”
