Bexhill Carnival preview

BEXHILL looks set for a bumper carnival week.

Organisers say plans are 'in full swing' and they are expecting another successful event. Attractions run throughout next week, culminating with the traditional procession on Saturday (July 28) lunch time.

The theme for this year is 'celebration'.

The annual carnival youth football festival kicks off on the Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. The five-a-side tournament includes girls, boys and mixed teams.

Fairground fun starts next Friday with the Party in the Polegrove - this year featuring 'the UK's number one' Elvis impersonator.

The evening will finish with a grand firework display.

Carnival day itself (Saturday) will see a colourful parade of floats and volunteers march from Sidley at 1pm, through the town centre and into the Polegrove.

Categories include carnival courts, family groups, schools and colleges, pubs clubs and hotels, charities and community associations, majorettes and twirlers, playgroups and pre-school, commercial and religious organisations.

Organiser Nim Whitmarsh said: "Procession entries are doing pretty well. We could use a few more pubs and clubs as they seem to be asleep this year and we are looking for some more bands to march with, but the other categories seem to be filling up."
