Bexhill dad feared dead in Motorway horror

A 45-YEAR-OLD Bexhill father is believed to have died in an horrific motorway pile-up which killed four people.

The crash, on the southbound M11 near the M25 junction, involved two heavy goods vehicles, a car transporter and four cars. The cars were destroyed in a massive fireball.

The four people who died included a father and two children aged 13 and nine, from London and a driver of a Peugeot who was travelling alone, believed to be from Bexhill.

His body had not been formally identified yesterday and police are waiting to release the name once dental records have been checked. Roger Grimwade, police press officer for Essex Police, said the horrific crash happened about 2pm on Friday.

Both the Astra and Peugeot burst into flames in the collision.

The Essex Fire and Rescue Service worked at the scene to release an injured woman driver of a white Astra from the carnage. She was trapped for more than an hour and a half.

She was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Three other people in the car, a father and two children, were killed.

The injured were taken by air ambulance to hospital in Harlow.

We have not yet formally identified the man who was travelling alone in the Peugeot, said Mr Grimwade.

Police are currently checking dental records to identify him.

The motorway was closed until 12.30am the following day.

The German driver of one of the lorries was taken to hospital in Harlow for treatment.

On his release he was arrested by police and is being questioned over the cause of the accident. Police enquiries are continuing.
