Bexhill FM - the talent

Bexhill FM delivered another legendary week of broadcasting thanks to the efforts and invention of its 2010 team.

One of them is Fraser Ward who is a student at Bexhill College who relished the opportunity.

He comments: "2010 was a year of variety at Bexhill FM: there were shows consisting of numerous features such as chat, gossip, comedy, jokes, news, advice, requests, guests, live and recorded performances, quizzes, theme-related programmes and even competitions with great prizes being made available to the public. There really was something for everyone and a broad assortment of music being played throughout the week.

"Eventually you could get to know each presenter on the air and adjust to their particular broadcast style as the team comprises an array of different craft and talent. Listeners grew throughout the week with online viewings reaching their peak by Friday, which featured request shows from as early as 7am through to 5pm.

"This year saw a webcam being introduced on the website allowing anyone around the world to see the DJ's either frantically rushing around the studio or dancing along to their favourite songs.

"In some ways it was an end of an era as it was the final Bexhill FM at the old Gunters Lane site. It was also the last year for the inspirational and brilliant overseer Phil Higgins, who's been donating his services to the station for several years. Additionally, it could well be the final time veteran Sam Webster goes on the mike to host the band show, which this year exceeded expectations as he helped muster some very fresh and gifted musicians into the live lounge.

At the end of the week Tim Hampton presented his annual poem as a summary of the past seven days and the level of fun and anticipation was at an all time high whilst some carefully crafted pranks were set in motion '“ a jingle about Jonny Higgins to the famous Noddy theme tune and Richard Harris' birthday surprise live on air involving a vuvuzela, sombrero and ukulele just to name a couple. And then back to tradition; the well received celebratory Shiplu meal that marks the end of a long week and signals a time for reflection. However it won't be long before the team already begins to look to the future.

The view within the team is that Bexhill FM can only get better and moving up to the new, cutting-edge Bexhill High School for the Summer 2011 broadcast produces very exciting prospects. A new location, but with still the same great passion and motivation that's made the station so successful. I want to thank everyone who listened or who was involved with Bexhill FM in any shape or form and for simply one week of the year, I hope the community really gets behind this local treasure and won't hesitate to become involved and embrace this spectacle once again."
