Bexhill High scoops awards at national mathematics competition

BUDDING mathematicians battled fellow students in a numerical tussle for the number one spot at a top national contest.

140 students from Bexhill High School entered the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust Junior Mathematical Challenge, aimed at the top third of pupils in year eight or below.

The mental magicians answered 25 multiple questions in an hour, and 34 of Bexhill's finest finished in the top 40 percent nationally.

Lewis Simpson,of year seven, took home a gold award and the Best in School crown.

Ben Mason, Jamie Lau, Luke Dando, Darren Lincoln and Emma Ridley all won silver awards, with William Edwards, Kieran Betts, Luke Falconer, Caprice Batkin, Emily Cruikshank, Ellie Rains and Kelly Waters finishing off the year seven prizewinners with bronzes.

Year eight gold awards went to Louise Saunders and Max Mowbray, with silvers to Ellie Skipper, Ella Watson, Lewis Humphreys, Isabel Giles, Luke Curteis, Grace Trimby and Katarina Lazarova.

Katie Garland, Madeline Harman, Sophie Bignell, Rebecca Clark, Joseph Godwin, Samuel Rees-Jenkins, Ben Roger, Jessica Gaston, Ronan Demonfort, Jacqueli Davidson, Robert Barnett and Ryan Lee all took home a bronze.
