Bexhill Horticultural Society goes dutch

With their Spring Show still fresh in minds 49 members of the society set off for a five day holiday to Holland.

Vice chairman Mick Gregory said: "We travelled to the tunnel with the weather overcast, by the time we emerged in France we had broken cloud and sunshine. As the journey progressed the weather improved and by our first stop at Hof Ter Sakin Arboretum it was warm and sunny.

"Then it was on to Amsterdam to board our cruise boat the Prinses Cristina and the first of our meals on board.

"Day 2 found a number of our party exploring Amsterdam before we sailed to Hoorn, where again we were able to explore the ancient town at our leisure.

"After an overnight stay at Hoorn we awoke to a windy, but none the less sunny morning.

"We then sailed for Volendam and the wind and cloud increased, then came the rain which carried on during our afternoon visit to Zaanse Schans a living open air museum. Here we were shown the art of clog making and cheese production.

"On our way back to the boat the weather cleared and it ended in a clear starry night.

"Thursday dawned a bright day and most of the party set off on the coach to Keukenhof Gardens to enjoy a day of tulips, daffodils and a wonderful array of colours and exhibitions around the gardens. It did try to rain but our commitment to the trip meant that it only drizzled. Once again by the evening as we met our boat in Rotterdam the skies had cleared and we experienced a beautiful sunset and moonrise

"Friday dawned clear and sunny as we packed the suitcases, closed the cabin door for the last time and boarded our coach for the trip home, we stopped at the border town of Sluis for a look around and lunch, we then had a mid afternoon stop at Kasteel St Flora the former Royal residence during the 1st World War

"Through the Bexhill Observer we would like to say a special Thank you to our Driver Ron Shaw of Eurorider Coaches and also to our organiser Stuart Wood who has once again given us a wonderful holiday.

"These two experienced travellers made our trip a very happy and enjoyable experience. Thank you."
