Bexhill in Bloom's woodland cream teas

AN Open Garden for Bexhill in Bloom raised £141 on Sunday.

Around 30 people came to Sandra Melvin's woodland garden at 294 Turkey Road, to enjoy cream teas and fine weather.

Newly elected Bexhill Town Mayor Cllr Bridget George opened the event, with Deputy Mayor Cllr Jimmy Carroll also attending.

Sandra, who is chair of Bexhill in Bloom, said: "It's a wild woodland garden, so it's not full of bright flowers. You have to have a messy spot, and I've got lots of messy spots. I call them natural habitats."

Her garden opens again on Saturday, June 6, from 11am-4pm as part of the St Mark's Church Open Garden Scheme, which raises money towards the St Mark's Raise the Roof campaign to finish the Little Common church's hall.

Nine gardens open in total, with strawberries, cream teas, lawn games and garden produce on sale.

Programmes are on sale in the Ark (opposite the post office) for 4 in advance or from the gardens on the day at 5.

The gardens open are 8 Herbrand Walk, 1a The Broadwalk, Peach Cottage, The Twitten, The Ark, The Twitten, 3 Green lane, 11 Magpie Close, 294 Turkey Road, 7 Bushy Croft and 18 Courthope Drive.
