Bexhill Library improvement work starts on Monday

WORK on the promised refurbishment of Bexhill Library together with access improvement is due to start next week.

East Sussex County Council's Library Service is installing a new lift and entrance to improve access for people with disabilities and for parents and carers with buggies.

The 350,000 scheme, which starts on Monday, also involves the refurbishment of the whole of the ground floor.

The library will be closed on Monday and the ground floor of the library will be closed for the duration of the scheme.

From Tuesday, the first floor of the library will be open as normal and staff will continue to provide services to customers although these will be on a smaller scale. The whole scheme is due to be completed in April.

Councillor Bob Tidy, lead county cabinet member for community services, said: "The new entrance and lift will make it easier for all our customers to access the library.

"The refurbishment work will create a more modern and comfortable environment for our customers. We will improve the internal layout, install new lighting, upgrade the heating system, paint and decorate, re-carpet and provide new enquiry points and flexible shelving.

"I would like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience that the work may cause and we look forward to a much-improved library when the scheme is completed in April."
