Others attending the event were Lions and guests from Clubs in Hastings, Battle, Eastbourne and Uckfield.

Bexhill Lion President Paul delivered a light hearted version of Rudyard Kipling’s ‘If’, reflecting the community and fundraising activities of the Club, including their donations, barbecues and Christmas collections.

Speeches began with Master of Ceremonies Rick Hough introducing District Governor Bob Prebble who gave a summary of the Lions Club International Foundation. This provides worldwide financial support when disasters strike, working with local Lions Clubs on the ground helping to provide food, accommodations and other essentials. Governor Prebble added: “I congratulate and thank Bexhill Lions and the other Lions Clubs for their continued support of their local communities.”

Lion June Hough thanked other Lions Clubs for showing their support by attending the dinner and invited all Lions to stand and toast visitors and guests.

Bexhill mayor, Cllr Watson said: “I thank the Bexhill Lions Club for its support over the years, to the local community. I am well aware of the range of activities undertaken by members which make a real difference to individuals as well as charities and community groups.”

After a short break, guests were entertained by local folk and blues band the Exiles, who, along with talented vocalist Jane, provided a wide range of songs that were much appreciated by guests and encouraged many onto the dance floor.

Exiles band member Rich said: “We would like to thank you all for inviting us to play for you and for making it such a fantastic evening. We haven’t enjoyed a performance at a ‘Formal’ event as much as that for a long time”.
