Bexhill poet Claire delights the W.I withher take on the town

W.I. member Pauline Flavell said: “Claire is quite the celebrity locally and on YouTube.

“Her observations on Bexhill and life rang all too true. All our members enjoyed her humorous recital so much they want her to come again in the not so distant future.”

Pauline added: “Also this month, we had a short presentation by Jack Doughty on Fairtrade, which coincides nicely with the East Sussex Federation WI Annual Meeting, taking place in April at Eastbourne, and the beginning of Fairtrade week which starts at the end of February.

“We were lucky to have Jack and his colleague bring a selection of FairTrade items for our ladies to buy and inspire them to look out for those goods when they shop in our local stores.”

Bexhill received Fairtrade Town status in 2007 and since then has been championing the fight against global poverty by trying to make a difference locally.

The steering committee meets on a regular basis to organise events, raise awareness and expand the number of businesses and retailers using and selling Fairtrade products.

Little Common W.I. is a friendly group, which meets at the community centre at Sehpherds Close, Little Common, on the third Wednesday of each month at 2pm, except during August. Visitors are welcome to attend its meetings.
