Bexhill to get CID unit

AN "enhanced" level of policing, including a locally based CID unit, is promised for Bexhill as the Sussex Police Operational Review comes into effect.

Newly-appointed Rother district commander Chief Inspector Bruce Mathews has already taken up his post.

He will base himself at Bexhill police station but, under Senlac divisional commander Chief Superintendent Paul Curtis, will be responsible for the newly-created Rother division which covers the entire 200-square mile local government area.

His responsibility therefore includes Bexhill, Battle and Rye plus the rural hinterland and he intends spending as much time as possible out of his office and into the district.

Local Inspectors such as Inspector Max Mosley at Bexhill and Inspector Dave Goad at Battle will retain responsibility under Chief Inspector Mathews for their towns.

Staffing numbers are still being agreed but Chief Inspector Mathews is hoping to have 70 officers under his command for the district.

This includes CID. Detective Inspector Trevor Bowles will be in charge of CID, based at Bexhill.
