Bexhill Triathlon 2011 is now open for entries

IT MAY seem like a long way off, but the Bexhill Lions Triathlon 2011 is now open for entries and many triathletes have already signed up to take part.

It will be the second year the Lions have organised the Bexhill Triathlon.

The event will be held on May 29 2011 and race director David Burstow describes it as “a course with real potential for setting your personal best!”

The 2010 event proved to be a great success for the Lions and saw hundreds of national and international entries bringing thousands of visitors into the area, raising the profile of Bexhill on Sea and a substantial £7,500 for charity.

The Bexhill Lions Triathlon is a standard sprint distance triathlon, with a 750m sea swim, 20km road cycle and a 5km promenade run.

With very little undulation throughout, David says this race provides the perfect setting for both first-timers to the sport and experienced triathletes.

The event is open to competitors from the age of 13 upwards (age taken on December 31, 2011), with a much shorter course available for those aged 16 and under.

There is also an option for a team relay event for three adults taking one of the disciplines each.

These events will be chip-timed and inclusive, where possible, for those with special needs.

All profits generated by the Triathlon will be donated to charity. Receiving donations will be the club’s nominated charities, the same chosen for 2010.

They are Sussex Air Ambulance, St Michael’s Hospice and Bexhill Lions Charitable Trust Fund.

To enter, there is an online entry system or triathletes can download and print entry forms from the website and post them with a cheque for the relevant amount.

David said: “To make it a success we need to let as many people know about this event as possible.”
