Bexhill writer's magic story

THE SECRET Cave is all about a boy and his dragon friend on an adventure through time and space.

This is the first book published by Bexhill resident Graham Mercer - a story in rhyme and colouring book as well according to Graham, who says it is about the chance discovery of a hidden cave and the start of a magical, mythical adventure to the past.

The story began life as a poem written for Graham's son Rory 12 years ago, and now that he is a grandfather it seemed the right time to revisit.

Graham, of Eastwood Road, said: "The Secret Cave is a book for young children, either to listen to, tucked up in bed, or snuggled up on the sofa with their mum, dad or grandparents reading to them or to read for themselves before they get too grown-up to like dragons, pirates and magic.

"Personally I wonder if it is possible to ever get too old to like such things.

"I enlisted the talents of local artist Hazel Wood to illustrate the book for me. It started off in glorious technicolour but Hazel thought it would be nice if we could involved the children in the story. So, remembering the many hours of fun that our kids had 'doing colouring', not to mention the many hours or peace and quiet it gave us as parents, she changed the illustrations to simple, bold, black and white images that could be coloured by the children as the story unfolds.

"The Secret Cave is the first of many adventures for Rory and his dragon friend as they set off on new adventures through time and space, learning about our history and the myths and mysteries that have grown up around it."

Copies of the book (4.99) can be purchased online at amazon.co.uk, lulu.co.uk, and other major online book sellers.
