Sam’s sculptor Andy Sharrocks has created Seaweed Sally to keep him company.

Sally even has her own poem like Sam: “Just like Salty Sam I came in on the tide.

“Those crashing waves gave me such a ride.

“And now I’ve washed up on dry land.

“I’d like to stay here if the sea says I can.”

Salty Sam drew much love from the community when he appeared mysteriously on the beach in August, with many speculating where he came from and who made him.

Someone vandalised the sculpture, taking his feet, an arm and his wooden poem board and his ‘bench’ was burned soon afterwards.
