The Landscape Group (TLG) picked up the BALI National Landscape Award, known as ‘the pinnacle of professional achievement,’ for its work on West Parade, Bexhill.

The scheme was subject to an ‘extensive’ judging process, including site visits from members of the adjudication panel.

TLG general manager Paul Norton said: “We are honoured to be part of this important scheme for the people of Bexhill.”

The Next Wave regeneration project began in 2009.

Work included grass cutting, weeding, path maintenance, turf maintenance, play equipment inspection, pruning, mulching and hedge cutting.

“We are delighted that TLG’s hard work has been recognised with this award,” said Rother councillor Jonathan Johnson.

With the help of the design team, horticultural advisor Dr Noel Kingsbury and artist Allison Turnbull, judges said the West Parade scheme was able to, ‘revitalise’ the promenade and improve the setting for the De La Warr Pavilion.

“The landscaping work along the West Parade has made a real difference to the look and feel of the area and will contribute to our efforts to improve the seafront – one of the town’s greatest cultural assets,” said Cllr Johnson.

The BALI award was only the latest in a string of plaudits for the West Parade scheme.

Almost one year after it’s completion, the Next Wave project was awarded the Editor’s Choice Award, at the Local Government News 2012 Street Design Awards.

Speaking about the scheme’s success Mr Norton said: “The improvements along the West Parade have been a major enhancement to the town and will help the town prosper for years to come.

“We look forward to continuing to work closely with our partners at Rother District Council to provide a high level of maintenance in the future.”

TLG also won two Principal Awards during the ceremony at Grosvenor House, in London.

The categories were ‘ground maintenance,’ (free public access) and ‘hard landscaping construction,’ (non domestic) under £300k.

TLG has won 71 awards since 1991 .
