Bid to build houses in pub garden

PLANNERS have urged councillors to refuse an application to build houses in the garden of a pub.

Developer Willow Homes Limited wants to put up two four-bedroom detached houses at the back of the Horns Lodge Inn in South Street, South Chailey.

The proposal won support from Chailey Parish Council but planning officers at Lewes District Council have recommended the application should be refused.

A report to the district council said the proposal was an over-development of the land which would result in a 'cramped and poorly spaced development' which would have a detrimental effect on the area.

Planners also said the homes would create an 'unacceptable living

environment' for any future owners because the buildings would be too close to the pub itself.

A final decision on the plan will be made by the planning committee of Lewes District Council on Wednesday February 13.
