Bid to cut speed limit

Drivers might have to slow down soon on the A27 near Polegate '“ but not by as much as a councillor would like.

Cllr Roy Martin, a county and town councillor, wants a 40mph limit between Polegate and Wilmington.

He met Highways Agency staff to discuss the proposal.

Cllr Martin said: 'There are a number of side roads entering the A27 on this stretch, which has a bad safety record.

'I was pleased to hear the Highways Agency will consider this proposal.

'The agency will investigate reducing the speed limit to 50mph on the whole of the A27 between Lewes and Polegate.'

The Express asked the Highways Agency if it will reduce the speed limit to 50mph.

A spokesman said: 'The Highways Agency has carried out a speed limit review on the A27 and we are awaiting the results of that review which is due out this summer.'

Do you think the speed limit should be reduced on the A27?
