Big arts festival unveiled

"A BIG embracing fun week for the historic core of our town...."

That's the intention behind the Saint Peter's Old Town Arts Festival, which opens on Saturday, June 25.

Committee member Roger Elias said; "The Arts Festival grew out of an idea to have a fun week and place Bexhill Old Town and St Peter's Church at the centre of it."

The festival will include as many local groups and schools as possible, to create a wide programme of events appealing to different tastes.

The arts week begins with a Summer Ball at the Community Centre, then includes pantomime, medieval music, concerts, recitals, poetry, dancing, a string quartet, choirs, open gardens, cream teas, gospel singers, bell ringing - the list goes on.

"There has been an excellent response from local school to perform concerts and present works-of-art displays. This has been a new and learning experience for all of us on the committee as none of us have ever done anything like this before.

"The committee is indebted to the Bexhill Old Town Preservation Society for underwriting all costs in setting the festival up."

All profits from the event will go towards the interior redecoration of St Peter's Church.
