Big fire closes Bexhill rail line

BEXHILL train passengers were unable to get into Hastings by rail on Monday morning after a major fire at Warrior Square.

The blaze destroyed the Railway Social Club next to Warrior Square Station at St Leonards.

An exploding gas cylinder caused a huge structural collapse.

Fear of further explosions led to rail officials cutting off the power to the busy line.

Passengers were taken into Hastings by bus instead.

Six fire engines attended the blaze which occurred in a residential area.

The alarm was raised just after 9pm on Sunday.

The rail line and nearby roads were still closed on Monday afternoon.

A fire investigation team are at the scene.
