Big freeze could be set to return

THE Rye area is bracing itself for more snow this weekend with temperatures predicted to plummet to minus 9.

Freezing conditions are expected to hit the county on the final shopping weekend before Christmas.

It could see a return to the scenes below scenes photographed in Rye by Rector David Frost and resident Steve Clare, when heavy snow fell a few weeks ago. The Great Dixter in the snow picture (right) was taken by Perry Rodriguez.

Heavy snow could hit traders hard as they rely on a busy pre-Christmas weekend.

The big freeze could lead to more transport disruption in the run-up to Christmas.

A Southern Rail spokesman said: “In the event of snow and ice, we will do all we can to keep trains and passengers moving.”

An AA spokesperson said: “The likelihood is there will be ice on the road, which is far more lethal than snow and it is virtually impossible to spot.

“The difficulty is that closer to Christmas there is more pressure to travel to do your Christmas shopping.”
