At the end of October all pupils donated to the local food bank in response to the need for extra food items.

School Deputy Head Debs Bligh said: “We have also seen many cake stalls and sponsored events going on in the school – all going to local charities.

“A mufti day and a series of raffles led to £1,200 being raised for Dragonflies, a local charity that supports young people who have experienced bereavement and loss.

“Our donation to this charity has been made in memory of our former pupil, Grace McAdie, who sadly passed away this summer aged 19. It has been a joy to see pupils unite in their fundraising activities to honour her memory.

“Over the last week pupils have been working hard to put together 426 Christmas boxes for the Mustard Seed campaign ‘Love in a Box’.

Pupils have been filling brightly wrapped shoe boxes with toys, toiletries, hats, scarfs and sweets and donating money to cover the cost of transporting the box to a child in Eastern Europe who may not otherwise have received a Christmas gift.

Alongside the boxes the pupils raised £1,278 to give to the Mustard Seed charity.

“We feel so proud of their efforts. Some pupils clubbed together to provide a box and other pupils donated individual boxes. It was fantastic to see the corridor completely covered by 426 of these special gifts.

“We will continue with our efforts right up until Christmas. Once again the staff and pupils will support Surviving Christmas, based in Hastings, with food items, clothing and monetary donations. The pupils are working hard to ensure that the real message of Christmas is realised and appear to be having a lot of fun doing so.”
