Big Sleep Out returns to Chichester

A charity which provides support for homeless people in Chichester and Bognor Regis is urging people to sign up to its biggest annual fundraiser.

The Stonepillow charity is organising the Big Sleep Out event at Chichester Cathedral on October 29, and is asking for entrants to sign up before it is too late.

The event sees hundreds of people sleep out under the stars on Cathedral Green and in the Cloisters, either in sleeping bags, or without, or in cardboard shelters they have made throughout the day.

It is an important source of funding for the charity as it raises thousands of pounds, which helps run the St Joseph’s night shelter in Hunston, and the charity’s other projects in the city and Bognor Regis.

There are a number of activities being run on the day by local youth groups, and there are prizes to be won in the Cardboard Shelter Competition.

The fee for taking part in the Big Sleep Out is £15 per person, which includes entry to the cardboard shelter competition, or £5 for anyone who simply wishes to enter the shelter competition.

The pricing structure has been changed slightly for this year, with tickets for families of four priced at £40, giving a saving of £20.

You can register online by visiting the charity’s website www.stonepillow.org.uk/sleepout or by calling 01243 537934.

The charity is also seeking a new volunteer trustee to join its board of trustees.

Ideally candidates will have expertise in fundraising and legal matters.
