Bigamist hands himself into Steyning police station

A BIGAMIST who went on the run rather than face his wives in court during his trial has been jailed.

Roderick Sangster had failed to attend his trial at Warwick Crown Court last month.

The former Church of Scotland minister was found guilty in his absence on Friday, November 14, of entering into a bigamous marriage and committing forgery.

Through intelligence, police knew the 58-year-old paid visits to an address in Steyning.

Last Wednesday morning, two days before he was due to be sentenced, he walked into Steyning police station, in Charlton Street, and gave himself up.

At Warwick Crown Court on Friday, December 5, Sangster was sentenced to three years in prison.
