Biker hurt in head-on crash in Camber

A motorcyclist sustained serious injuries when his bike was involved in a head-on collision with a van in Camber.

Police were called to New Lydd Road at 1.50pm on Sunday (April 3).

The motorcyclist, a 33-year-old man from Dagenham in Essex, who had been riding a blue Suzuki GSXR600, sustained serious injuries in the crash.

He was airlifted to St George’s Hospital in Tooting for treatment. He is currently in a stable condition.

The 52-year-old St Leonards man who was driving the silver Volkswagen Transporter van was not hurt in the incident.

The road was closed for five hours while the scene was cleared and investigations were carried out.

Inspector Adam Hays, of Sussex Police, said: “We believe the motorcyclist was part of a larger group of riders and we are keen to speak to any witnesses.”

Anyone who saw what happened or noticed either the van or motorcycle being driven shortly before the crash is asked to email [email protected] or phone 101, quoting Operation Middleton.
