Each year a different charity is supported by the Lions Club, and this year the beneficiary is SERV (Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers) Sussex, the Blood Runners.

17 teams of four players took part. The scoring format was Stableford points with the best three scores within each team on each hole counting towards their aggregate score. The winning team, with a score of 130 points, were the ‘Latecomers’ comprising Neal Hallett, Rod Callaghan, David Thompson and David Crunden. The individual winner was Sharon Johnston.During the day a raffle was run and after the dinner an auction was held. The result of this was a total of £4,270 raised to support a most deserving cause. Three of the volunteer riders were present to give a summary of the work done by them and their colleagues

The volunteer riders and drivers provide an overnight, free of charge, transport service to local NHS hospitals across Sussex for urgently needed medical items including : blood, platelets, plasma, biological samples, X-rays, human infant milk, patient notes and medical equipment. The service is run primarily using the volunteers’ own vehicles. However, SERV also has a fleet of marked bikes and cars that are funded by charitable donations. The monies raised from the golf day will be put towards the cost of a new vehicle.
