BIRTHDAY HONOUR

Lewes resident Judy Lehmann has received the MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours for services to the NHS library system.

She is head of library services for the NHS covering Brighton, Hove and Lewes.

She started the library service for doctors, nurses and medical and nursing students in 1972 and has since built it up to four libraries.

'I'm particularly pleased because librarians don't often get any recognition,' said the Montacute Road resident.

'It's a great honour.'

CRASH: An 86-year-old man was seriously injured when the Volkswagen Golf he was driving along the A259 left the road and crashed 150 metres east of East Dean at about 6pm on Saturday evening. Witnesses should call Polegate Road Policing Department on 0845 60 70 999.
