A ‘meet the architect’ event took place in Felpham, where Blake’s Cottage is proudly located.

“We were delighted with how it went, over 60 people came and there were lots of very good questions.

“There was lots of enthusiasm for the project,” said Peter Johns, trustee of the Blake Cottage Trust.

Stuart Cade of Rick Mather Architects was on hand to meet visitors, having been chosen by the trust to take the lead on restoring the cottage to the form it once was when Blake lived there from 1800 to 1803 and wrote the words to Jerusalem.

Mr Johns added: “He came highly recommend by the Royal Institute of British Architects having restored the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford magnificently.”

The trust needs to raise the majority of the £500,000 to first restore the thatched cottage, removing the 1970s extension, before building what it believes will be a ‘world class’ centre for the study of William Blake’s art, poetry and prophecy.

Mr Johns said he expects the whole project to be completed by 2019. As part of the Felpham Village Fete on July 8, the cottage will be opened to the public.
