Bleak but beautiful study in Littlehampton

BLIZZARD conditions and a Peak District scene are among the subjects of Littlehampton artist and tutor Pat Harvey’s new series of monthly painting workshops at her riverside home.

The sessions aim to help both beginners and the more experienced master watercolour techniques, and begin with ‘Bleak Midwinter’ (January 31), a study of a blizzard. They continue on February 21 with ‘In The Peak District: Snake Pass’.

Pat will divide her final class, part of her series Learn From a Watercolour Master, into two parts, both focusing on Scottish watercolourist Charles Rennie Mackintosh. On March 28, the class will, as usual, study a particular painting, In Fairyland (1897), by Mackintosh, and attempt to master his techniques. In the final class (April 25), students will gather material such as photos and flowers to create their own version of the painting, unique to them, but in Mackintosh’s style.
