Blind widow in fatal collision

A BLIND Sidley widow died on Monday after being in collision with a taxi while attempting to cross Ninfield Road.

Grieving friends have paid tribute to Doris Ross, 79, describing her as a "lovely lady" and a "sweet person" who coped cheerfully with her loss of vision.

Doris, of Glovers Court in nearby Glovers Lane, carried a white stick.

She was knocked down shortly after 10am while attempting to cross from outside Danny s Discount Store.

Shop assistants and road workers went to her aid until an ambulance crew arrived. She died three hours later in the Conquest Hospital.

The 61-year-old taxi driver, from Sedlescombe, was unhurt but was said to be deeply shocked.
