Blooming lovely again in Horsham

Horsham will be blooming again with the floral meadow borders continuing this summer.

Staff at Horsham District Council reassured residents that the borders that attract the all important birds, bees and butterflies will be used throughout the town.

For the last four years annual floral meadow seed has been used throughout Horsham to create naturalistic planting on roundabouts, grass verges and on small greens as well as in Horsham park and other recreation grounds.

Due to financial pressures in 2011 it was decided that Horsham park would be exempt from this type of planting but it would continue elsewhere in the town.

However this year the district council is able to reintroduce the plants back in to the park, thanks to Horsham in Bloom’s fundraising work.

Horsham in Bloom is an independent charity, supported by Horsham District Council and others

Councillor Jonathan Chowen, HDC’s cabinet member for arts, heritage and leisure, said: “I really welcome this initiative by all the team at Horsham District Council’s Parks & Countryside department working with our partners, the very successful Horsham in Bloom.

“The wild meadows are fast disappearing from the countryside and I am pleased that we in Horsham are doing our bit to protect them by providing space at Warnham, Leachpool, Chesworth and Southwater.

“To me it is a very high priority.”
