Blown fuse sparks small 'explosion' at Brighton station

Concerned commuters contacted Southern after an explosion at Brighton railway station yesterday morning (December 11).

The incident happened at around 9.35am, and reportedly saw sparks fly out from under a train.

One passenger‏ tweeted Southern saying: "So I saw an explosion at Brighton Station this morning... anyone know what happened? Didn't fancy sticking around... @SouthernRailUK #Brighton."

Another said: "Big bang as I left #Brighton station this morning followed by plume of smoke. Looked like an engine backfire or something. #brightonstation."

But British Transport Police said: "We have checked with officers in Brighton and can confirm the loud noise was made by a fuse blowing on the underside of a train. They double checked - nothing to worry about!"
