Blue Reef Aquarium is inviting people to take part in a beach clean on Saturday, April 23, on the stretch of beach near the aquarium and is hoping a large number of people will go and give their support.

Hastings council has kindly agreed to provide us with a selection of litter picking tools”, said Blue Reef’s Leanna Lawson, “and we need some energetic volunteers to come along and lend us a hand.

“The plan is to meet up at the aquarium at 9:30am on the day so everyone can be registered and issued with cleaning items, data sheets and beach clean booklets.”

Volunteers will be issued with collecting bin bags, a pair of gloves and a reporting to record their findings.

Anyone under the age of 17 will need to be accompanied by a parent or a legal guardian if they want to take part.

“All the rubbish that we collect will be brought back to the aquarium where it will be separated out and individually itemised,” said Leanna.

Volunteers are asked to contact Blue Reef in advance to confirm their attendance.

Sensible clothing and footwear must be worn and take sunscreen if the weather is warm.

The clean-up will take place on Saturday, April 23, at 10am, meet in the aquarium cafe at 9:30.
