The Source skate park is hosting and organising the event on September 10 and 11, called The Source BMX Battle of Hastings.

Richard Moore, from The Source, said: “This is a new annual event that is being held this year as part of the anniversary celebrations and will feature the very best BMX riders in the world competing for an €18,000 prize fund.

“The original Battle of Hastings took place in 1066 and this year with the 950th anniversary festivities, we’re putting Hastings back on the international contest scene with our version of the Battle of Hastings to celebrate the first big BMX contest at the Source Park.

“There will also be an open qualifier event for all riders at the Source Park on Saturday (July 23), in support of BMX Day 2016.

“The qualifier will select four riders to compete in the main Battle of Hastings competition. More information on the qualifier can be found at www.sourcebmx.com/boh.

“To say we’re excited about this is an understatement. Putting on amazing events was our biggest motivation when getting the Source Park opened.”

Both the qualifier and the finals will be judged for both street and park riding.

Richard added: “Entry for the qualifier is free and the four finalists will be treated the same as the invited professionals with hotels for the weekend and invites to all of the meals/parties plus a chance to win a share of the €18,000 prize fund. There are also prizes from our sponsors that will be given out on the qualifying day.

“The only rules to enter are that you are over 16 and are available to ride in the finals, if invited. The entry form can be found at www.sourcebmx.com/boh.”

Everyone is welcome on Saturday with practice starting at noon and the contest running from 2pm to 4pm.

The Source BMX Battle Of Hastings is presented by Monster Energy, in association with Etnies and is sponsored by BSD, Cinema, Cult, Federal and United.

Brothers Richard and Marc Moore opened the skate park at the former white Rock Baths in February.

The brothers, from Bexhill, founded The Source BMX in 2003 and it has grown into Europe’s largest mail order company.

Around £1.25m was spent by The Source and Hastings Borough Council to bring the park to life.
