Body Junction Charity Taster Day

THE BODY Junction in Sutherland Avenue held another of it's successful 'Charity Therapy Taster Days' last Saturday.

This is the third time they have held such an event with all proceeds from the day going to 'Plan UK', a charity, which helps children, and their communities in poverty stricken countries.

Owner of the Body Junction, Charlotte Farrant said that there had been a big demand for the seven limited places which were quick to sell.

At 45.00 each the lucky few had a choice of six relaxing 25 minute 'taster' sessions of either Sports Massage, Reflexology, Chiropody, Holistic Massage, Indian head massage, Hypnotherapy, and a posture check all provided by the Body Junction's expert team of therapists. Fruit juice, teas and coffees were served and a total of 315.00 was raised.

Donating the funds to Plan UK was Body Junction Massage Therapist, Sally Newell's idea.

Already an avid supporter of Plan UK she is planning to raise even more money by bravely attempting to climb to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in November.

The sponsored 12 day trek will cover the 5,860 metres of Mount Kilimanjaro and seven of the 12 days will be a full-on climb.

Sally said the idea to take this daunting feat came from a friend, who has herself completed two charity treks, and Sally's husband who successfully climbed Mount Everest last year.

She said: "It's quite a challenge but my husband is all for it and said I have to go for it as it's a really good experience. I see it as a personal challenge for myself, but it's also an opportunity to raise money for Plan UK. I've been involved with them for a few years by sponsoring a child which is how they raise most of their money."

She explained that the reason the climb takes so long is due to the altitude, she said: "You have to go up very slowly as there can be a problem with altitude sickness and the slower you take it the more chance there is that you can reach the summit."

Training for the challenge has already begun with lots of walking which Sally says she will step up soon with stamina training.
