Hastings mum Rebecca Hamilton is celebrating after qualifying for the UK Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation Championships (UKBFF) to be held later in the year.
Mum of two young children, Rebecca says she was thrilled to be invited to the UKBFF championships (to be held in Nottingham in October) after being placed second in at the recent UKBFF show in London.
Rebecca says she was very shy when young and would do anything to avoid sports or being the centre of attention, but discovering weight lifting around three years ago changed all that. “I got into weight lifting as it helped me feel better about myself and lift my mood after suffering with some depression,” she said. “I entered my first show in October 2012 where, to my surprise, I was placed 4th fitness model; I was buzzing!”
Rebecca, who trains at Raw Instinct Gym, St Leonards, says she fell in love with the sport, enjoyed meeting people and gained confidence. “I’ve made lots of friends at shows who share my passion for the gym. Everyone has been so friendly, supportive and positive.”
Rebecca has won many trophies and medals since taking up the sport and she’s recently opened a discount supplement shop in Hastings.
She said: “Competing has completely changed my life and me for the better. Sometimes you just got to take yourself out of your comfort zone, even if it scares you - you never know what the results will be!”
