Mr Sen has sought planning permission to change the use of 9 Station Road from offices to a cafe. If Arun District Council gives approval, it will enable him to expand the Syrup Cafe at 11 Station Road into the currently empty premises.

Mr Sen also wants to install new internally lit fascia signage over the Station Road frontage of the two premises as well as the Crescent Road frontage of 9 Station Road.

His planning agent, Mark Gibbens, says in a statement the scheme will improve the economic viability and vitality of the town centre by using a vacant office and extending a thriving cafe.

The existing shop front and recessed front door of the corner premises will be replaced by 2.34m high bi-fold aluminium windows, coloured burgundy to match the existing cafe.

“The windows will retract inwards and fold back against themselves to open up the cafe and provide a modern airy feel and enhance the local area by providing a modern visual addition to the street scene,” says Mr Gibbens.

“As the new shop front will fit into the existing openings, it will not be overbearing in terms of scale height or massing.

“The new proposed windows will provide a safe environment and will address issues of security and crime prevention.”
