Bognor celebrated in new film

Film-makers Barry and Angela Pyatt have turned their lens on Bognor Regis for the town's first promotional DVD.

The couple have produced Bognor '“ Sunshine on Sea to highlight the charms and attractions of a resort usually blessed with good weather.

The 40-minute production covers some of the town's historic architecture from the days of Sir Richard Hotham as well as modern landmarks such as the Butlins Skyline Pavilion.

Barry said: 'The film is not commercial in any way nor sponsored. It represents our interests and enthusiastic support of the area and effectively promotes it as a very desirable place to be.

'It still has that essence of a British seaside resort, which is sadly lacking in a lot of south coast places nowadays.

'Bognor is a fantastic place and it is really poised for quite an exciting future. There seems to be a lot going on there.'

The couple, both aged 59, spent a year making the DVD. Also featured are cameos of Pagham Harbour, Chichester, Selsey and Arundel among the nearby attractions.

Bognor '“ Sunshine on Sea follows the success of their initial Sussex film about Littlehampton, which was launched in March.

An audio visual equipment design engineer for the BBC for several years, Barry has also been an independent documentary maker for more than 40 years and ran several successful film-making businesses.

He was one of three pioneers of English travel videos in the late 70s/early 80s with features on the English Lakes and Yorkshire Dales.

He and Angela, both 59, met in 1963 in Kent but only married in 2004 after a chance get-together in Spain where they were living at the time.

They made a popular movie postcard of the Costa Blanca and set to work on their Littlehamp- ton project after they returned to this country to live in Climping in 2004.

Bognor was next on their list. 'I have good memories of Bognor from 1972 when I played in the house band at the Pig and Whistle inside Butlins,' Barry recalled.

'As a child in the early 50s, I remember coming to the pier and cinema by train from Littlehampton.'

Bognor '“ Sunshine on Sea is available, priced 9.99, from NPM News in The Arcade, Bognor. It can also ordered on the www.angelfilms.org.uk website.
