Bognor council to meet those keen to boost Picturedrome

They are hosting presentations to enable those who want to carry out the work for two extra screens.

As reported, the town council advertised for expressions of interest in the scheme at the booming town centre cinema.

News of the latest step in the possible expansion was given by Cllr Roger Nash at a meeting of the Bognor Regis sub-committee of Arun District Council.

“We have a meeting coming up shortly when the town council will be looking at the possibility – and I emphasise the word possibility – of two additional screens to the back of the Picturedrome.

“Various people are doing presentations in relation to that.”

He said this contrasted with the silence from Arun’s preferred developer, St Modwen, about its multi-million-pound regeneration proposals. The company has included a multiplex in its initial ideas, but no firm proposals have yet been revealed.

“We are at the beginning of September and there is no definite news. It is very worrying when the planned consultation is in one month’s time.”

Cllr Francis Oppler said: “The town council is doing an absolutely stunning job with the Picturedrome and I would say people are pleased with that.”

But Arun’s leader, Cllr Gillian Brown, said: “St Modwen is on track. The public consultation is in October and I’m not expecting anything before that.

“I know everybody is looking forward to seeing what comes out of the consultation.

“Everything is fine as far as I am concerned. We will have the chance to comment in October.”
