Bognor florists delighted with Chelsea Flower Show prize

Gill Homer, proprietor of Gills Flowers in Rose Green and Lucinda Knapman of Broadwater Flowers in Ferring represented the in the second session of the Floral Arrangement Competition held in the Floral Design Studio prestigious show last week. They proudly achieved a silver-gilt medal for their interpretation of the title Gardeners’ Delight.

“The planning and gathering accessories for our exhibit started in February and we wanted it to achieve a really British feel,” said Gill.

“Staging at Chelsea was through the night of Wednesday, May 25, starting at 9.30pm and we had finished by 2.30am. It was very exciting, but exhausting.”

Judging was the following day and Lucinda added: “It was an emotional moment when we discovered that we had won a medal, particularly because we were competing at such a high level with more experienced exhibitors.”

The flowers for the pair’s stunning display were supplied by J. Van Vliet of Southampton.
