Bognor holiday club turns out to be load of rubbish

A summer holiday club at a Bognor Regis church has been a load of rubbish.

And the 100-plus children who have gone along could not have been happier.

The town's Baptist Church has been turned into a tip complete with a crane, giant working robot and an array of wheelie bins and black sacks full of rubbish for the week of high-energy fun.

The youngsters, aged five to 11, who converged on the Victoria Drive premises had to catch the Tip Rat who came out at night to wreak havoc for the night foreman, the Rev Graham Banks, and the night watchman.

The Tip Rat managed to kidnap 'Mrs' Mop, complete with a beard, and held her ransom for 150 bars of strawberry jelly.

Other characters living on or near the tip included Mr and Mrs Black Sack and the grumbling neighbours, Mr and Mrs Cillit-Bang.

The church has run a summer holiday Bible club for the past 12 years.

The aim is to have a lot of fun while introducing children to the evergreen themes of good, evil and redemption central to the Christian faith.
