Bognor International Birdman is back this weekend

The wacky and the wonderful will take an autumn amble off Bognor Regis pier on Saturday (October 1).

The Bognor International Birdman is back for a second time this year after high winds and a choppy sea stopped flying in July.

The crowd-pulling event is for competitors in the Kingfisher Class, and judges will be looking for the best costumes, the most imaginative crafts, and the funniest pre-flight routines.

Some 20 to 25 aviators are expected to leap from a height of 17ft into 14ft of water to raise money for their favourite charities, with one of the plucky flyers being Bognor Regis town mayor, Jim Brooks.

Organisers hope the amount of money raised for charity will set a Birdman record.

As well as the flying fun, there will be lots of other entertainment for the crowd to enjoy.

There are still some last-minute vacancies for anyone else who fancies a dip.
