Bognor lighting firm revs up with sponsorship deal

The employees of JCC Lighting had the chance of a pit stop experience with a F1 car at its family fun day.

The firm is a sponsor of the Marussia motor racing team and it took along last year’s F1 test car of Timo Glock to the event.

This gave JCC’s workers the challenge of changing one of the car’s tyres.

Among those who grabbed the chance were JCC buying and inventory manager Jaime Ellingham, buying assistant Charlotte Hughes and inventory partner Kim Bird.

Their fastest time was a creditable 4.48sec to put them near the front of the grid.

Kim said: “It was good fun. The adrenaline is still pumping. I felt under pressure with everyone watching us.

“It was really exciting when we knew the car was coming. An F1 car is not your normal delivery.”

The fun day took place at JCC’s premises on the Southern Cross Industrial Estate.

The firm is also motoring ahead nicely. Its 96-strong workforce is set to be boosted by further recruits this year to cope with an expected ten per cent growth in its £27m turnover.

Chief operating officer Jonathan Parry said: “JCC is going from strength to strength. We wanted to share that success with our employees.

“We are really excited about the future because we are doing really well.

“We like being in Bognor. We have loyal employees and that stable workforce is really good for us.”

Founded in 1989, JCC designs, makes and markets probably the largest range of commercial and domestic lighting in the UK.

It also has a presence in the Middle East, France, Hong Kong, China and Italy.

Some 160 people took part in last Friday’s fun day with its magic show, bouncy castle, fairground stalls and face painting.

A cheque presentation for nearly £2,000 formed the highlight of the fun day.

The money was handed over by JCC to St Wilfrid’s Hospice. It comprised the sponsorship gained by Mr Parry and five of his colleagues in this year’s Bognor Prom 10k road race which was matched by the company.

This will pay for about one-and-a-half days’ running costs of the St Wilfrid’s Hospice at Home scheme.

The donation followed one earlier this year which totalled £2,500.

Julie Longman, the hospice’s community and events officer, said: “We are extremely grateful to JCC for raising money for us through the race. It’s also good of them to allow us to be here today to represent the hospice and get our name out and about.”
