The first incident was at 5am, when night staff found him on the floor with a cut to the right side of his head.

An ambulance was called, the paramedics were satisfied there were no other injuries and he was returned to bed.

At 7.35am he was found again on the floor next to his bed, wrapped in his duvet. Paramedics were called and he was taken to St Richard's where he died the next day.

Mr Platt leaves his wife Barbara, who lives in Felpham.

West Sussex coroner Penelope Schofield recorded a narrative verdict. She said: "On February 13, 2008 John Platt died as a result of a fall in Elizabeth House care home in Bognor Regis."
