The Heritage Partnership was put together by the town council as a result of the passion for Bognor’s history it found in compiling its neighbourhood plan.

This led the council to carry out a detailed study of all the historic features around the town – from familiar sites like the pier to benches which are easily walked past. Its results are on the council’s website.

Sue Holmes, the council’s head of street scene and leisure services, said: “This, coupled with the passion that was expressed about the subject by residents, led us to form a new group.

“It was set up especially to look at what important features of our past we have around the town and how we can protect, preserve and enhance them, as well as use them to promote Bognor as an interesting place for visitors – with many hidden attractions and treasures.”

Working with local historians, conservation experts and others has resulted in some exciting projects being considered.

“These projects and aspirations will include restoring artworks, cleaning water features and replacing traditional signage,” said Mrs Holmes.
