Bognor Regis MP handed petition against adult learning centre closure

Students are facing their final day at a Bognor Regis training centre.

The High Street base run by Futures Learning is set to close in spite of a campaign by those who attend its courses.

They gathered a 1,700 name petition and nearly 150 letters of support in the two weeks after the closure was announced.

They handed over the results of their efforts to the town’s MP, Nick Gibb, outside the town hall on Saturday, March 24.

Mr Gibb said he intended to write to other education providers in Bognor to see if they would be willing to host the courses.

The centre offered qualifications in maths and English equal to NVQs as well as ITQs for computing and Workability courses to help students’ job prospects.

The Futures Direct centre is run by Woodspeen Training with funding from the Learning Skills Agency through Learndirect.

Learners still on courses after March 31 would be supported at home on their computers.

Those who lacked computers would be referred to Chichester College and its outreach centres in Bognor and Littlehampton.
