He said: "I chose those songs because I show the children the variety of music that there is around.

"It's great to come back to sing to the children. I went to one of the schools at the Big Sing '“ Nyewood CoE Junior '“ when I was a boy and it's good to say to them that I went there and this is what I am doing now.

"It shows them that, if you put in the hard work, then you can get the rewards."

Jonathan (27) fitted in his short gig at the Arena Leisure Centre between an interview with Channel Five News and preparations to appear in the Holders Festival of performing arts in Barbados.

Coming up after that is a tour of New Zealand with Hayley Westenra before he returns to the UK for a solo tour.

His visit to the Big Sing was arranged through his mum, who is a music co-ordinator at one of the schools involved.

Event organiser Rose Green Infant School music co-ordinator Katrina O'Neill, chairwoman of the Felpham and Bognor schools' music group, said the event had featured sing-a-longs in the morning.
